Poldark Tour

Background

Winston Graham wrote 12 Poldark novels in all over a period of 57 years. He moved to Perranporth from Manchester with his family in 1925 when he     was 17. The 1970’s saw the BBC producing costume dramas from the first seven of the Poldark novels and they were a huge success. In 2014 the BBC produced the first series of a new dramatisation of the books – with even more acclaim. The filming of the 3rd series was completed in September 2016. The 1970’s Poldark was filmed partly in Cornwall but a lot of it was filmed outside the Duchy. The vast majority of the later Poldark was filmed at various locations in Cornwall.

Winston Graham lived in Perranporth until 1959, eventually settling in East Sussex. He returned to Cornwall on regular family holidays, staying at the Crantock Bay Hotel, West Pentire.

There are lots of sites around Cornwall that feature largely in the two Poldark series. There are also quite a few that feature in Poldark books that did not make it onto television.
